White nights in St.Petersburg: The river Neva and one of it's draw bridges.


Already in 1992 a cooperation agreement between the Physics Departement of the St. Petersburg State Technical University (SPTU) and the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) was signed. Main scope of this agreement is to strengthen and to promote the scientific and educational activities in both institutions. The success of this program is documented with the list of joint publications below.
In 1997 SPTU provided the first 50 kV Mott detector for the SEMPA experiment which was successfully installed. Many of the recently published results would have been impossible to achieve without this detector.

Due to the greatfully acknowleged funding by the Swiss National Science Foundation, the experimental equipment of the Spin-Polarized Electron Spectroscopy at SPTU was updated with a selection of important modern instrumentation.
